The focus of all the efforts and experiments of Balachandra Rao was his village Nandalike. Wherever he might go on transfer on his professional assignments he would often appear in Nandalike in connection with some tasks to be performed there. He would visit places for the sake of Nandalike; would meet people for the sake of Nandalike. In sum his sole purpose was to see the growth of Nandalike, to achieve the development of Nandalike, to see that it is in the limelight. His thoughts and dreams centre round Nandalike and Nandalike alone.
Does the society ever forget such devoted men, people who do such hard work, people who sacrifice so much? Does it ever neglect them? May be in some places such people are forgotten and neglected. That would be in bad taste. That would be ingratitude. But in many other places these people are looked upon with respect; they are honoured; they are offered gratitude. That is in good taste, goodness of heart, the dignity of humanity.
In relation to Balachandra Rao the society did not remain blind, was not insensitive; whenever there was an opportunity people felicitated him; honoured him; presented him with awards and thus discharged the burden of their debt to him. This was their culture, courtesy, and affection.
